Welcome To The Jungle Movie Review: Cast, Story, Rating & Final Verdict

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)

Finally making its debut on the big screen as the third part in the Welcome series, Welcome To The Jungle comes up with an all-time greatest star cast Bollywood has ever seen before. The movie is helmed by Ahmed Khan, and starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Johnny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Raveena Tandon, Jackie Shroff and lots of others, the film offers a great combination of humor, action and craziness.

Though there are many entertaining parts in the movie, but the problem lies in the uneven script and unnecessary length of the film.

Story

The film is all about a greedy businessman trying to make a movie that is bound to fail because he wants to use the film to launder his ill-gotten gains. But everything goes wrong because of a down-and-out actor and novice directors along with a lot of other strange characters join in.

What starts off as a film within a film soon becomes a crazy adventure set in a strange jungle and full of confusions and action scenes and other hilarious stuff.

Though the concept of the film is different from others, its storyline tends to get lost among many characters and plots.

Performances

Akshay Kumar once again demonstrates why he is still one of the best comedy actors of Bollywood. The easy-going comic timing, expressions and screen presence of Akshay make several scenes amusing regardless of bad screenplay.

Johnny Lever steals the scenes with his signature humor and perfect timing. His acting makes viewers realize why he is still one of the most talented comedians of India.

Suniel Shetty and Arshad Warsi bring nostalgia and manage to create several interesting scenes thanks to their chemistry. Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav give adequate performances despite having few opportunities.

Speaking about the women in the cast, Jacqueline Fernandez and Disha Patani look stylish and do their job well enough; however, their characters can be written better.

The villain of the film is played by Jackie Shroff, but the character does not have that kind of charisma that a villain of such a big-scale comedy entertainer should possess.

Direction

The director, Ahmed Khan, lays a lot of emphasis on creating a huge spectacle through a large number of actors, set design and action scenes. The attempt is evident but is executed inconsistently.

Some of the scenes use a lot of CGI and green screen technology which make certain parts of the movie look very artificial. The editing could have been much better.

Comedy

The film delivers plenty of slapstick humour, self-referential jokes and Bollywood spoofs. Fans of light-hearted, nonsensical comedies will find many moments genuinely funny.

Some jokes work exceptionally well, especially those featuring Akshay Kumar and Johnny Lever. However, several comic scenes feel stretched, repetitive and occasionally forced.

The film works best when it embraces its chaotic style without taking itself seriously.

Music and Background Score

The soundtrack complements the film’s commercial appeal. The songs are colourful and energetic, while the background score supports both the comedy and action sequences effectively.

What Works

  • Akshay Kumar’s outstanding comic timing
  • Johnny Lever’s hilarious performance
  • Massive ensemble cast
  • Several entertaining comedy sequences
  • Family-friendly humour
  • Nostalgic references to classic Bollywood films

What Doesn’t Work

  • Weak screenplay
  • Overlong runtime
  • Excessive CGI in action scenes
  • Underdeveloped villain
  • Too many characters competing for screen time
  • Inconsistent pacing

Final Verdict

Welcome To The Jungle is a typical Bollywood entertainer which emphasizes entertainment rather than realism. It is not trying to be realistic and wants the audience to appreciate the madness of the movie.

If you like slapstick comedy, big ensembles and the funny performances of Akshay Kumar, there are enough moments to laugh at in this movie. But those who look for a solid screenplay or good character development may not appreciate it much.

In conclusion, Welcome To The Jungle is a movie worth watching on a weekend afternoon but has its flaws and should have been scripted better.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
