Coolie Movie Review: Rajinikanth’s Mass Entertainer Shatters Records, But Not Part of LCU

Coolie Movie Review: Since the release of Coolie was announced, Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) fans were busy speculating and their hopes to see a secret connection between the Rajinikanth starrer and the hugely successful universe by Lokesh Kanagaraj. Lokesh had been a regular in telling Coolie that he was not going to be a part of it, yet there are hopes many still hold to get a twist of the story just before the actual detailing of the situation so as to make an original connection to the LCU.

Tragically Lokesh has now laid all speculation to rest. The director made an emotional public announcement wherein he expressed his gratitude to his cast, crew and affirmed that Coolie is an independent film with his own Thalaivar, Superstar Rajinikanth sir. He also encouraged people not to spoil it to other viewers so that people could enjoy surprise.

This can be painful news to hardcore LCU fans but the larger question on our minds now is: what dark magic has Lokesh been concocting all this time in place of Coolie?

First Reviews: Udhayanidhi Stalin Terms It a Mass Entertainer

The first review is in-and it is raving! Deputy CM and actor Udhayanidhi Stalin special screening of Coolie and also went to X (previously twitter) to express his excitement.

He commenced with greetings to Rajinikanth who has an amazing 50 years in movies and tweeted:

I am also very happy to wish our Superstar @rajinikanth sir happy 50 years in the industry.

Opining about the film, Stalin remarked:

Got a sneak preview of his long awaited film #Coolie, which releases tomorrow. This was a mass entertainer packed with power and I enjoyed it thoroughly and I am convinced this film will go into the heart of millions of people all over.

He concluded his message with good wishes to the entire team consisting of Rajinikanth, Sun Pictures, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Anirudh, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan.

Lokesh Kanagaraj was quick to repost Stalin’s message, thanking him for his kind words:

“Very grateful for your kind words @Udhaystalin sir ❤️🤗 Feeling elated to know that you loved the film, thank you so much for this.”

About the Film

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie features a powerhouse cast—Rajinikanth as Deva, Nagarjuna as the menacing Simon, and Aamir Khan in an extended cameo as Dahaa. Sathyaraj, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan round out the impressive lineup, with music by Anirudh Ravichander.

The buzz around the movie is massive—Coolie has already crossed ₹100 crore in advance bookings for its opening weekend, selling over 12 lakh tickets for day one alone.

From the first reactions, it’s clear Coolie promises a solid dose of action, charisma, and superstar swag—whether or not it’s tied to the LCU.
