De De Pyaar De 2 Review: Rakul Glows, Madhavan Steals the Show, and This Sequel Delivers… Mostly!

De De Pyaar De 2 Review: There are very few Bollywood sequels that can replicate the sincerity and light-heartedness of the original films. De De Pyaar De 2 belongs to such a rare category that, despite all its shortcomings, it remains entertaining due to its playful nature, an animated family-drama, and a collection of charming performances.

De De Pyaar De 2 Review and Story: What’s New This Time?

Making a comeback is Ashish Mehra (Ajay Devgn) and Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh) with their cross-generational romance, only this time the relationship is put to its biggest test yet meeting the parents.

Ayesha takes Ashish to Punjab to introduce him to her “progressive” family.
This is where R. Madhavan comes in the picture as her father, a man who appears modern in the exterior but the moment he finds out that his daughter is dating a person of the same age and so on, all his liberalizing arguments begin to fail.

This clash of age, ego, cultural expectations, and family pride forms the core conflict of the film.

Performances: Who Impresses the Most?

Madhavan introduces an ideal combination of humour, restraint and vulnerability. His image of an overprotective father is not cartoonish, on the contrary, the role acquires a true appeal and emotional depth.

This time Rakul get given a more substantial character. She is not the young girlfriend but a woman who has her mind and does not give up her choices even when they are assessed.

Devgn is not a superstar who takes up all the limelight. The romance between him and Jaaved Jaaferi turns out to be one of the comic aspects of the movie.

Meezan adds unexpected humour, and Jaaved, as always, lifts every scene he’s in.

What Works?

✔ Fun, chaotic family drama
✔ Madhavan’s brilliant performance
✔ A stronger arc for Rakul
✔ Smart pop-culture references (DDLJ, Shaitan, etc.)
✔ Feel-good rom-com energy
✔ Sharp comic timing

What Doesn’t?

– The second act drags a bit
– Some scenes feel unnecessarily loud
– Predictable structure with fewer surprises
– Repetitive emotional beats in the middle

Still, the film recovers well in its final stretch and ends on a strong note.

Final Verdict: Should You Watch It?

This sequel will keep you entertained, at least, on most parts in case you liked the first De De Pyaar De. It is not a revolutionary one, yet it is an entertaining, cheeky, and emotional rom-com that is primarily driven by the actors.
