Filmfare OTT Awards 2024
The fifth edition of the Filmfare OTT Awards was held in Mumbai last night. Bollywood stars showcased their best creations for all to see. The event is known for its glitz and glamour, and the stunning night was made even more spectacular by the stunning outfits of the A-listers. The event, organised for digital content, saw various shows and films bagging awards across 39 categories.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar – 16 nominations-the biggest among all for a period drama based on the canvas of the freedom struggle in India. This was followed by Guns N Gulab and Kaala Paani with 12 and 8 nominations respectively. Kota Factory Season 3, Made In Heaven Season 2 and Mumbai Diaries Season 2 bagged 7 nominations each to showcase their diverse flavours that are still thriving in the ever-growing OTT space in India.
So, with all the nominations in place ahead of the event, everyone started wondering who would actually win these awards under the various categories. The night was tense, suspenseful – with many emotional highs and lows as well as some justified victories, reflecting the credible hard work put in by the producers, actors and crew. Let’s find out
The Great Night Winners
The night rightfully belonged to Diljit Dosanjh, who won a number of awards for his work in Amar Singh Chamkila, which was directed by Imtiaz Ali and was a web original film. The film has won the Best Film (Web Original) award while Imtiaz Ali bagged the award for Best Director for the project. Well-deserving Best Actor, Web Original Film (Male) was awarded to Diljit Dosanjh for his phenomenal performance.

On the female side, Kareena Kapoor Khan was bestowed with the coveted Best Actress, Web Original Film (Female) award for her brilliant performance in Sujoy Ghosh’s Jaane Jaan, thereby risking yet another jewel in her already heavily bejeweled crown. She walked the red carpets in a sparkling saree cut with sous contradictions, piece of utmost sophistication. Very emotional was the win since she shared such an expressive caption with a photo of her holding the Filmfare trophy, which quoted, “The black lady always gives you that dizzy feeling… till today,” to celebrate her victory in a way that went well with her fans.
Best Series and Direction: The Railway Men & Kaala Paani
The award for Best Series went to The Railway Men, a moving drama about the unsung heroes of the railway system in India during the Second World War, beating stiff competition from Guns & Gulaabs, Made in Heaven Season 2, and Kota Factory Season 3. The winners of the Best Director, Series award were Sameer Saxena and Amit Golani for directing Kaala Paani, a gripping series based in the Andaman Islands, capturing the sufferings and struggles of people being in quarantine-like isolation.
In acting categories, Best Actor, Series (Male): Comedy went to Rajkummar Rao for his performance in Guns & Gulaabs; Best Actor, Series (Male): Drama went to Gagan Dev Riar for Scam 2003: The Telgi Story. The women’s categories went to Geetanjali Kulkarni, Best Actor, Series (Female): Comedy for Gullak Season 4 and Manisha Koirala for Best Actor, Series (Female): Drama for Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, a very contrasting role for her as an actor.
Awards for supporting actors
The award for Best Supporting Actor (Series-Female: Comedy) was given to Nidhi Bisht for her phenomenal performance in Maamla Legal Hai. She also won the award for Best Supporting Actor (Series-Female: Drama) for her exceptional performance in Made in Heaven Season 2. For male supporting awards, R. Madhavan won one for his role in The Railway Men. Jaideep Ahlawat was also awarded Best Supporting Actor, Web Original Film (Male) for his memorable act in Maharaj.
An Evening of Surprise and Celebration
The Filmfare OTT Awards had much in store for its audience, as it offered its due recognition to the freshman and the newcomers who brought fresh views to the screen. This year, Arjun Varain Singh was named the best debut director film for Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, a breath of fresh and touching friendship in the times of digital existence. Vedang Raina also bagged the Best Debut – Male, Film title for his very first performance in Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, thereby establishing him as the upcoming actor on OTT.
Reckoning Between Critics Choice and Award
This has been all about the Critics’ Choice, which has played a part in marking some of the best content and performances for that year. Best Series, Critics went to Guns & Gulaabs, while Kay Kay Menon claimed Best Actor, Series (Male), Critics – Drama for his enthralling work in Bambai Meri Jaan. Huma Qureshi was awarded Best Actor, Series (Female), Critics – Drama for her blockbuster Maharani S03 project. The Critics, too, conferred Jaane Jaan the designation of Best Film, Critics. This was later followed up with two coveted awards: Jaideep Ahlawat bagged the Best Actor (Male), Critics – Film and Ananya Panday the Best Actor (Female), Critics – Film.
Best Music and Cinematography
And music and cinematography played an integral role in building up those experiences which were to be shared and relished by the audience. A. R. Rahman won a heap of awards this year for Amar Singh Chamkila, namely Best Background Music and Best Music Album, Film. Sylvester Fonseca won the Best Cinematographer, Web Original Film award for his dazzling photography in the above-noted film. Best Production Design would share the honour between Suzanne Caplan Merwanji for The Archies and Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray for Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, all recognised for the spectacular contribution to the visual aesthetics of the films.

Every brilliance shines and has the owner’s name inscribed on it, and this too has on it the signature of its own name, this evening turned out to be for all the best in terms of talent, best in creativity, and painstaking effort that go into making the best digital content in India. So, more such brilliant shows and films left without stating the fact further that OTTs would become as script-shaping components of Indian entertainment industry. The night ended with what seemed a bright promise holding brighter opportunities ahead for digital-content creators, actors, and audiences in India.
Honor the deserving personalities in bright lights and deliver some of the defining moments in itself of an industry emerging outside in the core of things within the scheme of global entertainment. Looking forward to next year’s awards: tighter competition with many more, innovative and truly earth shattering, content making it to the podium.
