King of Queens fans have long waited to have this show come about again. Yet now Kevin James has made it clear that it is not going to happen and his justification is spot on.
Talking to Collider in an attempt to promote his new project Guns Up, James discussed how without the late Jerry Stiller who portrayed Arthur Spooner, the show would not be the same.
Leah Remini has also aired the same statement on previous interviews as she stated, it would be difficult to imagine the sitcom without the unforgettable appearance of Stiller.
Leah Remini has echoed the same sentiment in past interviews, saying it would be hard to imagine the sitcom without Stiller’s unforgettable presence.
Why Jerry Stiller Made the Show Iconic
The King of Queens ran at the chemistry between James, Remini and Stiller on screen. Arthur Spooner was not only comic relief as he was the life and mess in the show. Be it a potato chip in the shape of Richard Nixon, or a weird screenplay he was trying to sell to Lou Ferrigno, Stiller simply made it all memorable.
Prior to his performance as Arthur, Stiller had been a comedy legend thanks to his performance as Frank Costanza on Seinfeld which included such iconic moments as his tell-em-everything attitude and the creation of the cult holiday known as Festivus.
Since his 2020 death, memorials across Hollywood have eulogized his comedic timing that was unrivaled and the warmth he had on set. Kevin James called him an angel in 2023 & Michael Weithorn who created the show, he quoted him the spirit of the show.
Why a Reboot Won’t Happen — And Why That’s Okay
Interestingly, Stiller at first had rejected both Arthur Spooner in King of Queens and Frank Costanza in Seinfeld. Luckily, he later on agreed and proceeded to give two of the most lovable characters in television history.
To James, Remini and the creators of the show, the choice of not rebooting is to hold on to that magic. It is just impossible to imagine the King of Queens without the funny mess of Arthur in the basement.
And in some cases it is precisely the better tribute to the classic to leave it alone- and laugh at the genius that Jerry Stiller brought to each appearance.
