Development:
Beginning in 2012 Rajamouli started working with Mahesh Babu on a film project and the partnership became real after Rajamouli finished his masterpiece RRR. In April 2020 Babu acquired his 29th lead role which led to the naming of the film SSMB29.

Budget:
With a budget surpassing ₹1,000 crore (US$110 million) it holds the title as the most costly Indian production ever made. Rajamouli and Babu selected a revenue-sharing system that provides them 40% of all profits to serve as their payment structure.
Pre-production:
The writers V. Vijayendra Prasad and Rajamouli finished their script during March 2024 after dedicating two years to script development. Rajamouli initiated pre-production by searching locations in Kenya shortly after October 2024.
Filming
The production of this project began on 2 February 2025 by starting principal photography in Hyderabad together with Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. The film team implemented complete Non-Disclosure Agreements as well as total mobile phone restrictions to stop confidential information from becoming public.
The production team traveled from Hyderabad to Odisha where they began their next filming stages in the deep forested areas of Koraput. The crew built a massive set modeling Kashi at Talamali hilltop to film an action scene which combined Babu with Prithviraj Sukumaran.
The leaked set pictures and video captured online in March 2025 caused Rajamouli to hire new security personnel due to his displeasure.
Music
Taking the lead on musical compositions for SSMB29 is M. M. Keeravani who has continuously worked with Rajamouli through his career including powerful score works for Baahubali and RRR.
SSMB29 Release date and Languages
SSMB29 is set to release in 2027. The Telugu original version of the film will come out simultaneously with Hindi and Tamil and Malayalam and Kannada versions.
Future Plans
Two installments of SSMB29 are anticipated by the reports which predict the first part for release in 2027 and the second part for 2029.
